The Sri Lankan team, who came to bat first, did not get off to a good start.The Sri Lankan team lost successive wickets at the beginning of the batting. All the top order batsmen of that team Fernando 1 run, Mendis 14 runs, Samarawickrama 8 runs and Asalanka 14 runs lost their wickets in sequence.  Sri Lanka were at a miserable 91/4 in 24 overs.  Nissanka scored 56 runs off 75 balls for the Sri Lankan team.  Sri Lanka's all-rounder Wellalage, who was in a difficult position to score 200 runs, played well and scored 67 runs off 65 balls.As a result, the Sri Lankan team lost 8 wickets and scored 230 runs at the end of 50 overs.

Arshdeep singh and Axar patel took two wickets each for Indian bowling.  Also Siraj, Dube, Kuldeep, Sundar took one wicket each.

Match Tied

After this, India's Rohit Sharma and Gill added 75 runs for the first wicket, chasing a simple target of 230.  Gill was dismissed for just 16 off 35 balls.  After him, the captain of the team, Rohit Sharma, got out for 58 runs and the Indian team lost wickets in a row. The much anticipated Virat Kohli was dismissed for 24 runs, Iyer for 23 runs and KL Rahul for 31 runs.

In the end, India needed 18 runs from 30 balls to win. Shivam Dube was in the field, so there was hope for a big victory for the Indian team.  Shivam Dube played brilliantly and added runs each.  Dubey hit a six off Hasaranga's over which left India needing just 5 runs off 18 balls to win.  Then Asalanka, who came to bowl the 48th over, sent the 3rd ball of the over to Dube for a boundary.   This tied the score.  But Shivam Dube got out in the very next ball, India would win if they scored 1 run in 14 balls or Sri Lanka would win if they scored 1 wicket. Then Asrhdeep singh, the last batsman of the Indian team who entered the field, got out on the first ball, so the Indian team was all out for 230 runs.  So the match ended in a tie.

Wellalage, the Sri Lankan team player who played well in this match and took 67 runs in batting and 2 wickets in bowling, was selected as the man of the match.

And the team that wins the remaining 2 matches will win the series.

The second ODI between India and Sri Lanka is scheduled to be played in Colombo on Sunday at 2:30 PM.
